Restoration of an all mahogany 1955 Martin 00-17

A 1955 Martin 00-17 all mahogany construction.

This amazing guitar came to us in surprisingly good condition. The body shows no sign of structural issues typical of instruments this old. Only the bridge was in sub-par condition. The non-original bone was cut interestingly, to say the least, while the wood part underneath show carvings that should simply not be there. The visible part of the wooden bridge shows a large crack that needed repair.

First, we cleaned the bedding for the bone, then we filled the missing parts of the rosewood. When we were done with this, we cut a the slot for the bone we custom made for this repair. I polished the bridge and treated it with the oil what we usually use for the conditioning of fretboards. The end result speaks for itself. Take a look.

Beyond the bridge repair, all the instrument needed was a complete inside and out cleaning and a full set up.
