This guitar is a very early example of Martin's return to using Brazilian rosewood. 1983 was the first year Martin began using Brazilian rosewood again, and since the company was celebrating its 150th anniversary that year this guitar has the burned-in "1833-1983 150th Year" stamp on the inside center backstrip. In addition, it has the earliest version of the "Vintage Series" paper labels, signed by both C. F. Martin III and Chris Martin, C.F. IV. The label also gives the serial number is 445703 and model D-28. But since Martin was not yet consistent in their model designations when using Brazilian, this one is called simply D-28, not D-28V, although it's identical to later D-28V models made of Brazilian rosewood. The pickguard is the acetate tortoise-shell pattern version, under the finish, similar to what had been introduced on the M-38 a few years earlier. This excellent limited series Martin D-28 is in excellent condition, there are only a few signes of use on the guitar. The owner bought this guitar in Vienna many years ago and used only at home. We installed a Schertler Bluestick EQ pickup system into this guitar about 3 years ago. This pickup system didn't need any major modification on the guitar and we can take it out if needed by the new happy owner. The top was made of Sitka spruce, the condition is great as well. In 2007 the guitar was professionally refretted by our workshop and also then we installed the Schertler pickup. Although there were no official limited edition numbers for this model in 1983. The owner asked Martin customer service about his guitar and they informed that only 128 pieces were made in 1983, 50 pieces in 1984 and 90 pieces in 1985, that's why it is hard to find such a piece of Martin guitar.
